USC Institute for Creative Technologies
7 April 2001
MONTEREY (mz) -- Many people have asked me about the origin of USC's Institute for Creative Technologies (ICT).
I drafted the operating plan and research agenda for the USC Institute for Creative Technologies as an Army-sponsored university advanced research center (UARC) in February 1999.
I drafted that plan for the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army for Research and Technology, Mike Andrews. At that time, the working name for ICT was "The Institute for Collaborative Environment Studies (ICES)". The prose version of the plan and the Powerpoint presentation on that plan are linked below, as is the position description for the Executive Director.

The Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army for Research and Technology chose USC for the UARC.
